Ko-Tosho Tsuba, Kikyo no hana

A Ko-Tosho Tsuba in Kikyo no hana motive (Chinese Bellflower). It dates back to the Kamakura or beginning of Nambokucho period (1200 – 1350). Ubu (original condition) without hitsu ana. The surface shows considerable beautiful old black rust. The backside is flat whereas the front is slightly convex.

Sasano Masayuki describes this shape as the oldest type of Ko-Tosho Tsuba. The design of the mon sukashi corresponds to the early age.
