A Ko-Kachushi Tsuba

ThisTsuba presents a design which already reminds us of the Ji Sukashi works from later periods, yet still the Sukashi elements form the design here which is an abstracted depiction of the ‘Roji’ the stone path to a Japanese tea house. The Roji is a transitional space leading from the entry gate to the teahouse, and generally cultivates an air of simplicity and purification. Its importance developed during the Momoyama period and thus this Tsuba might date back from that time.

Comes with a custom made high quality Kiri box.
