A Kanayama Tsuba with Hyotan no zu (design of bottle gourds).
Kanayama tsuba are never signed.
The dark black iron shows strong tsuchime and granular tekkotsu here and there in the rim and a surface with beautiful luster. The thickness and the considerable niku oki results in a feeling of strength as one expects from Kanayama tsuba. Two small bottle gourds are placed atop and under the seppa dai. The hitsu ana are framed with wide and heavy bottle gourds in the shape of a funa dokkuri (a wide and heavy sake bottle used at boat parties). The small mouth of the flask is done in punched holes near the rim of the Tsuba.
The tsuba comes with a custom made tray.
Iron, steel.
